Food Safety isn't just for professionals, it's just as important at home. To help we have developed a new Food Safety @Home App.

Food Safety @Home takes you step-by-step through the processes of food safety from basic concepts through kitchen cleanup. Written by food safety professionals, the app is perfect for anyone preparing food at home.

The App includes 8 different topic areas:

  • "Concepts" gets you started with some key terminology used in training chefs and food service professionals.
  • "Setup" provides information to help you maintain a safe environment for food preparation at home.
  • "Supply" discusses the "Flow of Foods" - a concept that helps you think about how you purchase, transport, and store food.
  • "Prepare" contains guidance to prepare yourself to cook.
  • "Cook" gives you tips for safe techniques when cooking or preparing food for your family or guests.
  • "Serve" includes guidance for the formal or informal presentation of food in your home.
  • "Store" has pointers for packaging and storing leftovers or ready-to-eat food for later use.
  • "Clean" covers cleaning and sanitizing your kitchen and cooking equipment to maintain a safe environment.

FDA’s Oral Culture Learner Project

In an effort to enhance retail food safety, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has released video testimonials to educate retail and foodservice employees on the possible, dire consequences of poor preparation practices and provide tips to prevent foodborne illness. The videos support the FDA’s Retail Food Safety Initiative, which seeks to strengthen the retail and foodservice industry’s active managerial control of foodborne illness risk factors.
