Food Protection Manager: Although certification is not mandatory, food workers must demonstrate knowledge and passing an accredited Food Safety Manager certification exam is one way to meet the requirement.
Food Handlers: Not required but approved and recommended by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) for food workers in Alamosa, Conejos, Costilla, Grand, Jackson, Mineral, Moffat, Rio Grande, and Saguache Counties.
Exceptions: Food Protection Manager is required in Denver County and the city of Denver.
Manager Training Hours: Recommended but not required.
Food Handler Course: Recommended but not required.
Food Manager Certification and Food Handler Certificate Renewal: Food Manager every 3 years; Food Handler every 5 years.
